Cindy has been a part of Long-Term Care for 29 years. She began as a Grandfathered-In Aide, then obtained her Medication Aide, and worked her way up to a Registered Nurse. Cindy holds a Master of Science in Nursing degree with a concentration in Leadership and Management. She has held various positions as a RN including Resident Care Coordinator, MDS Coordinator, Director of Nursing for Assisted Living, Director of Clinical Services – Assisted Living, Assistant Director of Nursing, and currently Director of Nursing for Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.
Cindy is a member of the Advisory Board Committee for South College – one of Asheville’s Nursing Programs, is a member of the CNA Advisory Board and Nursing Advisory Board for Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College and takes part in working collaboratively with the local Community Colleges and Universities as a partner in clinical sites for both CNAs and nurses. In 2023, Cindy completed her Administrator-In-Training (AIT) program and obtained her license as a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator.
Cindy has been a member of NCDONA since 2013 and was the 2018 National Nurse Administrator of the Year for NADONA. Cindy was in the first graduating group of the NADONA Executive Fellows Leadership Academy, holds a Certified Director of Nursing Administration certification, and is a Fellow in the Academy of Fellows of Certified Directors of Nursing Administration from NADONA. Cindy is the NCDONA Region 1 (Mountains) Coordinator and is the NCDONA Recording Secretary.
Cindy has been mentored by wonderful Nurse Leaders! She has the goal to pay that forward, and to be of help to others. As a result of the mentorship from fellow NADONA members, Cindy and her employer, Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community, have received awards for recognition for excellence in service and dedication to the long-term care continuum from NADONA. Cindy understands and believes that these awards were earned through a combined effort by everyone on the team.
